Duck, Duck, No Goose: An (Almost) Wordless Wednesday Feast (and the Pitaya Giveaway Winner)

Okay, kids - this is about as wordless as I can get for Wordless Wednesday. Presenting: What Poppa Trix and I had for Thanksgiving. Ta-da!
I admit,  putting up a post about Thanksgiving food is ....   arriving rather late to the party at this point, but I'm hoping that perhaps these dishes will provide some inspiration for a fabulous holiday meal, or an anytime mini-feast. It all came together in just a few hours and caused minimal chaos.

First up, roast duck with a sour cherry wine sauce:
I used this recipe from Delia Smith. It came out perfectly - crispy skin, juicy meat ... and I now have a nice little stash of duck fat.

We had to have potatoes, of course, and I went with a classic Dauphinoise. You seriously cannot go wrong with this:
Brussels sprouts with pancetta, a loose adaptation of this recipe from Simply Recipes:
The stuffing was simple: stale French bread, spicy sage sausage, shallots, garlic, fresh thyme and sage, chicken stock, eggs ... no good photo of it solo, but there it is, hiding behind the wine glass:
And finally, a corn dish. For this, I combined cream, a saffron truffle cheese, shallots, egg, and, of course, corn:
This  made for a fairly non-gluttonous yet completely satisfying feast:
And now for the giveaway winner ...

Congrats to Christine from Fresh, Local, and Best. And Happy (Almost) Wordless Wednesday!

P.S. If you've got a minute, go check out this month's Your Best Recipe round up over at Spicie Foodie - there are a ton of great dishes for you to ogle. Including mine, of course!

  3. I was wondering what happened to grandma's table covering. Looks like she left it to you.

  4. OK, since I have left a clever comment and then a bitchy one (neither of which are about the food not surprisingly) I thought I should finally leave a proper one: I am all about the corn. I find corn dishes irresistible at table feasts like this and combo here with truffle cheese just has my head spinning. THIS is the dish I would have seconds and thirds of if I were so lucky as to have you cook my Thanksgiving meal. XO.

  12. This is quite a spread! Love the title and love that you served duck for Thanksgiving, it's such a special bird but I don't too often see it on the home cook's menu. I'm so excited about trying the pitaya juice! Thanks so much!

  15. Lol, Trevor's comments made me laugh! My mom has many tablecloths like that, she made them all, too :).

Just please tell me that you had some guests over because your spread looks incredible! Your criss-crossed duck is most elegant and as far as I'm concerned, you've created 'sides heaven'. Right, listen up...next Thanksgiving, I'm inviting myself over to yours!

PS. Thanks so much for your lovely words, you've made me all teary-eyed, darn it. But love you all the same <3.
