Gourmet Rhubarb and Pepper Jellies from Iceland: A Holiday Giveaway

When Poppa Trix and I were in Iceland, we met a really cool woman named Eirny Sigardurdottir, who owns Búrið, a lovely and quirky little cheese shop in Reykjavik. If you're ever in Reykjavik and you have have a hankering to put together a cheese feast, that's your spot, as I suspect Eirny knows more about cheese and what goes with it than just about any other person on the planet.

Case in point: these jellies, which she makes herself:
On the left is a piquant, not-too-spicy pepper jelly, and on the right is a rhubarb jelly.  I have decided that if I were to be banished to a desert island, I would need to have a jar of this stuff, some Cherry Glen Monocacy Ash goat cheese, and a crispy cracker to put it on. I am serious, it's pure heaven:

Well, guess what kids? Eirny kindly gave me a jar of the pepper and the rhubarb to give away to one lucky reader. (Don't worry, I brought some back for myself as well!) All you have to do is leave a comment for a chance to win. If you want to tweet the giveaway and come back and tell me you did, you get a second chance to win.

The giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere, and the deadline is Friday, December 14, noon EST.

And now I will leave you with some delicious cheese porn to whet your appetite for these fabulous jellies. ...

More of that goat cheese:

In the center is a slice of an Icelandic Brie-style cheese. Yes, I brought it back in my suitcase.

This is another Icelandic cheese I smuggled back. The name, "Ljotur," means "The Ugly One."
Here is why:

But I think it's so ugly that it's pretty, don't you?

I really can't get enough of the rhubarb and goat cheese combo ... it's a wonder I didn't decide to keep this one for myself. Aren't I nice?
Update, December 15, 2012: Heather of Girlichef, according to the Random.org gods you are the winner! I will contact you for your mailing address. Congrats!!!

  2. They both look spinningly delicious! I'd love either on a warm toasted English muffin I think, maybe with my favorite cream cheese. Many thanks! :)

  3. Rhubarb. Goat cheese. Sigh.

Of course, I am the girl who made an entire meal out of aged cheddar not once - but twice - for dinner this week... Cheese is probably the one food that would ever keep me from making the jump to a vegan diet.

    1. For the goat cheese, I suggest you visit the Cherry Glen web site, which lists stores that carry the cheese: http://www.cherryglengoatcheese.com/buy.html
As for the others, as far as I know they are available only in Iceland You can however find Story Dimon, a bloomy rind Icelandic cheese, at some Whole Foods stores.

  16. I've been wanting to go to Iceland for a long time. How great that you got to know the shop owner. You learn so much from them about the products. That is why I love small shops. Congrats to the lucky winner. Have a great weekend!

  17. After 'Poppa' gave us the Icelandic slide show at work, was telling him I found the Ugly cheese on the Mjólkursamsalan website. Did he mention that you tasted it? No! Please give some tasting notes on that cheese!
